Project Description
AS/A Level German Course
Exam board: WJEC
AS Level: 2820QS – A Level: 1820QS
German is a well-established academic subject and also a genuinely useful subject, highly sought after by employers. Language graduates routinely find graduate level employment and many students are able to combine their German language with a wide variety of University courses ranging from politics, law, engineering, business, medicine and even theatre studies.
AS and A-level German covers a wide range of skill areas ranging from communication, understanding and cultural diversity to citizenship; enabling you to take your place in a multilingual global society. It provides a broad understanding in a wide range of disciplines highly prized in today’s competitive global economy. Indeed proficiency in a foreign language is a skill that will complement all other subject areas.
Entry Requirements
To study A Level German you need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4-9 / C or above. You also require grade 5 / C or above including in German.
Curriculum
The WJEC AS and A level in German provides an engaging and exciting opportunity for students to build on their previous study of German. Through social, intellectual and cultural themes learners will be able to develop their linguistic knowledge and
cultural understanding of the countries or communities where the language is spoken.
You will be working on expanding your knowledge in these areas and also further developing your skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
The course content covers the two main areas of interest:
i. social issues and trends
ii. political, intellectual and artistic culture.
Under these two areas of interest a total of four themes have been chosen to offer students an extensive and pertinent learning experience. These four themes are in turn divided into sub-themes.
For each area of interest i and ii, Themes 1 and 2 will be studied at AS and Themes 3 and 4 will be studied at A level.

Access Arrangements
Access Arrangements allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without changing the demands of the assessment.
For example, readers, scribes and Braille question papers. In this way, Awarding Bodies will comply with the duty of the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’.
We can arrange access arrangements and assess you with our special assessor. The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year the learner sits the exams.
