Computer Science encompasses the theoretical aspects of how a computer is designed, used and applied to solve real world problems. It is an applied subject that provides the student with practical problem solving skills in a variety of programming language. It provides a strong foundation for students who wish to enter a career in Computer Science as Programmers, Data Analysts, Cyber Security Consultants, Wed Designers, Games Developers or Electronic Engineers. It is aimed at students who see themselves as developing their own computer software and hardware.
To study A Level Computer Science you need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4-9 / C or above including English Language and Mathematics
Our AS/A level Computer Science specification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental concepts of computer science and a broad range of flexible and interesting study opportunities.
AS Level consists of 2 units as follows:

This is a unitised specification which allows for an element of staged assessment. Assessment
opportunities will be available in the summer assessment period each year, until the end of the life
of the specification.

Access Arrangements allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without changing the demands of the assessment.
For example, readers, scribes and Braille question papers. In this way, Awarding Bodies will comply with the duty of the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’.
We can arrange access arrangements and assess you with our special assessor. The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year the learner sits the exams.
