Project Description

Exam Access Arrangements

Exam Access Arrangements will allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without changing the demands of the assessment. For example, readers, scribes and Braille question papers. In this way Awarding Bodies will comply with the duty of the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’.

We can assist with all aspects of the entry procedure, including advice and guidance regarding the application . The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year the student sits the exams. In accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Swansea College will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate students with access needs.

Candidates may be able to apply for extra time when taking an exam (usually 25%) or may require the use of a scribe or a computer. This will be decided by JCQ and based on evidence supplied ahead of time.

How to apply?

Candidates must come to the college for at least one observation class and meet with our SENCO. Following this initial session, JCQ requires the candidate to be assessed by the centre’s Assessor.

Any assessments carried out must be completed after meeting with the SENCO.

In addition assessments done prior to consultation with the centre cannot be used to process applications for access arrangements. External reports prior to consultation with the college cannot be accepted as an assessment. This is in accordance with JCQ’s guidelines.

Please note, extra fees will apply for access arrangements. These fees vary depending on the arrangements (ex. if extra invigilation is needed).
